Level Student Paired with

The questions that I asked are of high quality and wait time is adequate. I continually increased the use of higher levels of academic language as appropriate for kindergarten and or second grade students and second language learners. I used lots of open ended questions and questions requiring higher order thinking. Aside from this I also pair students appropriately to achieve the most learning from the questioning/discussions. On the left side I have a diagram that shows how I would pair up my students. I would not pair up my highest student with my lowest student, if I were to do this then it would cause frustration to both parties. My lowest student would be paired up with my student that is a great level. The low student would be getting the help he or she would be needing and the at grade level student would most likely not get frustrated with the other student.

In my classroom I make sure that my students were constantly cognitively engaged with content activities and assignments. Instruction was hands-on and required students to manipulate letter names, sounds, and place value when working with numbers. The activities in my classroom were challenging enough to get the students interest and motivated them to complete the task. The class was paced well and as shown on the left side students were grouped effectively. Students worked on a meaningful tasks and their active role in their learning made them have ownership of their work. |

This is an example of a rubric that I used in my second grade Language Arts class. I used the rubrics to evaluate students work. Students were also given the opportunity to score their own work using the rubric provided to them. By using rubrics I was able to adjust lessons as necessary. The first five categories in the rubric are included in almost every single writing assignment that I assign. One thing that I would change would be the very last category. For example, in this particular one I included "I used the OREO method" which is very useful in an opinion writing assignment. The OREO method would have been already previously taught and made visible for the students to see throughout the entire time that we were working on our Opinion piece. The OREO is an acronym for O--State your opinion clearly. R--Tell your reason for your opinion. E--Give an example to support your opinion. O--Re-state your opinion. |
